Events

Park West is well-known for fun and interesting community activities and special events. Our residents can take part in regularly scheduled weekly activities that range from walking clubs to card games, from exercise classes to weekly coffee klatches.

In addition to clubs and activities organized by our residents, the park management sponsors special events for residents such as movie matinees, ice cream socials, barbecues, luaus, and holiday parties.

Residents sponsor the annual Park West Fiesta, Oktoberfest, a New Year’s Eve Dinner Dance, Thanksgiving and Christmas Dinners, monthly potlucks and more.

The popularity of our Lender Library has finally led Park West book readers to form a club. Join other avid readers with some interesting reading and discussion. For the book of the month, check our Event Calendar. Hosted by the extremely literate Mrs. Polly Stuart.
Womens Canasta Card Group (Mondays at Noon)

Mondays at Noon in Card Room
The game of Canasta is said to have originated in Uruguay and at one time threatened to displace Contract Bridge as the premier card game. And if you aren't threatened by all this knowledge or a group of ladies playing cards, join our group.

Blitz Card Game (Thursdays at 6:00 pm)

This is a simple draw and discard game. Maybe you know it as "Scat or 31". Anyway, having this much fun with a simple card game should be outlawed, but not at Park West! All residents are welcome to play.

Monthly Community Potluck (3rd Saturdays of the Month @ 5PM)

Join your neighbors for Community Potlucks every third Saturday of the month. Social Hour begins at 5 PM and dinner begins at 6PM. Sign up sheet at the Community Building.

Crafty Ladies (Tuesdays at 1 pm)

Bunko Night (First Fridays of the Month @ 6:15pm)

Sign up at the Community Building Main Dining Room

Come and learn the dice game, Bunko. We need at least 12 players so sign up at the Community Building. If you are part of the lucky 12 +, bring a $1 with you to game night for your shot at winnings!

So what is Bunko? Strictly speaking, Bunko is a game of dice, played in rounds. Players take turns rolling the dice and trying to accumulate as many points as possible to win each round. At the end of the night wins/losses and Bunkos are tallied and prizes awarded.

But here’s the truth….

Bunko is a social event. It's a party. It's a blast! Twelve of us get together once a month and leaving the cares and worries behind.

Got a Hobby, craft, or other project you would like to do in the company of others? If you do, join the group of men and ladies for some fun times and fun projects!

We can't explain the full name of our local favorite watering hole, "El Sabroso Oakwood Grille" but hey, join a few of the gang at this local Carribean - Mexican Restaurant for a "no-host" social hour. Quite informal and no agendas, we meet weekly. Order your food and drinks and sit down with your neighbors. El Sabroso Oakwood Grille is located at 610 N. Grande Avenue just north of St. Mary's Road.

Deep Water Aerobics Classes (M, W & F @ 7 am)

When: Monday, Wednesday and Fridays at 7am

You don't have to be an "Ester Williams" to get a cool workout in our heated pool with our resident certified water exercise instructor, Linda Thompson . Come join in for a cardio workout in the deep end with "floaties" followed by some stretching in the shallows. Total class time is 45 minutes. We gear the class for seniors but you can work at your own level.

Want an easy-on-your-body kinda workout? Join us as we workout with popular exercise videos at the Community Building in front of the new plasma TV. Open to all but check with your doctor before starting in any new fitness program.

Let's Play Dominoes! (Tuesdays at 6 pm)

Have you been wondering why the ancient game of Dominoes is all the rage lately? Is it all skill or luck? Well, come to our open sessions every Tuesday evening, at 6pm, in the main dining room of the Community Building and learn why.

Scrabble & Board Game Group (Wednesday at 6:30 pm)

Wednesday at 6:30 pm in Card Room
For you "Wizards of Words", join our group to play this popular game or other games such as dominoes or board games. Many different levels of players attend. If you are a novice, this is an easy going group where Scrabble dictionaries are allowed (strictly for mind expansion, of course!). For you more serious players, we have players that can challenge you without the help of books.

Sew & So Stitch Club (Wednesdays at 7 pm)

Do you love to stitch and sew up stuff? So do a few others in Park West and they gather weekly to share projects, get instruction and just get together to work on projects. Everyone can bring a project to work on, and help others with their work. We meet every Wednesday evening in the Library at 7 pm. (Formerly Stitch and Bitch)

Have you always wanted to learn to use a computer or use email? If so, Jean Thompson and Mary Genevieve Crothers are offering their knowledge to get you into the information age.
To sign up, fill out a survey at the Community Building or leave a note for Jean or Mary and they will contact you.
Fitness Room (Daily from 8 am to 9 pm)

Let's get physical... with the new cardio and weight equipment in the Community Building Fitness Room. Work up a sweat and watch Oprah or ESPN on our plasma TVs while walking off holiday calories on our state of the art treadmills, elliptical and stationary bike. Build up that muscle mass on our 4 station weight workout equipment, free weights and gymball . Proper workout attire required.
Library and Internet Access (Daily 8 am to 9 pm)

Looking for a good book? You can find one in our lending library located in our new Card Room. Or perhaps you need to Google something? Use our complimentary high speed internet access in the Card Room with our two desk computers. Got your own laptop? We have free and unlimited wireless access for computers in the Community Building. Just ask the Park Office for the access code and you are good to go!
